Here is a complete log of my hard-disk drives (HDD) and SSD drives which I maintain in Google drive. These I use for my home (or my family generic use) as well for my development and test devices as well a part of my home lab. I maintain a detailed log this way to monitor the failure rate of these storage devices. Since it is not just hard-disks which fail unexpectedly even SSDs are prone to fail. And in the case of mSATA and M.2 SSD drives since the board is exposed, it may fail sometimes due to mishandling (such as static) or due to any liquid spills. There are cases SSD may fail due to over-heating too due to various heat generating components at its vicinity.

The other reason I main this log is to also monitor the technological advancements in the storage technology. Its not about when Seagate or Western Digital (WD) or Samsung released their latest high-capacity harddrives or SSDs. Its all about when these new latest drives will become eventually affordable and get commonly used and as well to monitor when the older drive technologies (or capacities) will get obsolete. For example a 1TB 3.5'' internal desktop harddisk is obsolete. Where as one can still find 1TB internal 2.5'' laptop harddrive. But on the other hand a 1TB SSD drive is still quite expensive and the SSD market is not that mature yet to completely replace HDD.

As you can see, I maintain details of the drives which are still in use and are in working condition and the drives which are expired (or in other words failed). But it is important to make a note that the duration between the manufacture date (and purchase date) and expired date has nothing to do much in terms of accessing the drive's reliability. For example my WD Green 1TB WD10EARS 3.5'' drive I rarely used and it failed quite prematurely. It started producing weird disk-errors and S.M.A.R.T. errors and eventually failed to respond completely. I barely used this drive. Later I discovered this drive is quite prone to error and many users as well Backblaze already reported about it.

My first hard-disk I bought is a Seagate 10GB drive when I am studying at college. Ever since I got many hard-drives and these are missing in this log. I just got an idea to main this log quite recently and I started preparing this complete Google drive sheet and populated all my existing hard-drives and SSDs which I have it at my home (and my home lab).

In case if you are interested getting S.M.A.R.T. attributes of your HDD and or SSD drive, here is my video log of the same. You can capture these attributes both via Linux Disks GUI tool as well smartctl command line tool as discussed below:

And in case if you are having issues or some inconsistency (such as file corruption, excess read leatency, etc) you can monitor and detect a failing HDD or SSD in Linux as discussed in my video log below:

TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 15-July-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Today I completed doing all the changes which are meant for the new upcoming TOFFEE-Mocha release. I have increased the resolution and the range of all factor variables. Instead 1 to 10 range now they have a range of 1 to 30. Unlike before the value 1 means it is lot more intense (or in some cases less intense) and the uppermost value 30 means lot less intense (or in some cases lot intense).

Why TOFFEE is forked from TrafficSqueezer ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TrafficSqueezer is an open-source WAN Optimization project. TrafficSqueezer is mainly a research project which is started around mid-2006. It is initially started as a research (or prototype) code even before it is officially registered in Sourceforge.net. But this code is just primitive user-space raw socket modules. This is later refined and a pre-alpha version is created. Followed by which Alpha release. This prototype code is moved from user-space to Linux Kernel (Kernel Space) and then the journey begin in terms of making a serious WAN Optimization solution. Once the pre-beta and beta releases are complete the mainstream series is started.

Building my own CDN - Moving away from Joomla to non-Joomla website - Update: 01-Oct-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Seems there are couple of Inmotionhosting servers are down. And one of the server includes The TOFFEE Project website hosted server. I was in touch with the Inmotionhosting team trying to resolve the same. I found a unique issue that all my website files are intact and the Joomla database. But the Joomla database tables are completely wiped out and missing. Besides there is also a sort of upgrade going on in their servers. Luckily I have the most recent backup of the entire website.

TOFFEE (and TOFFEE-DataCenter) optimized Mobile Wireless Backhaul Networks ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
TOFFEE can be used to optimize expensive Wireless backhaul network infrastructure. TOFFEE can be deployed over existing slow or often outdated old backhaul networks too. This will leverage mobile ISPs and network service providers to reduce their bulk IT CapEx and OpEx Costs.

TOFFEE-Mocha WAN Emulation software development - Update: 17-June-2016 ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Now I supported and finished complete GUI support of these parameters so that you can configure, store, reboot and the same will restore upon reboot. Besides I complete the TOFFEE-Mocha Big-Picture page. The Big picture is an interface where you can find all the configuration (or settings) of the TOFFEE-Mocha. This is almost similar to CISCO device show all command but in graphical representation. Sometimes a network admin can also print the Big Picture page and paste it near to the device to refer its settings.

A study on Deep Space Networks (DSN) ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
When you are dealing Deep Space Networks (DSN) one among the most challenging parts is the Interplanetary distances and communicating data across such vast distances. This is where we are not dealing with common Internet type traffic such as HTTP/FTP/VoIP/etc but it is completely different when it comes to DSN so far. So optimizing data in DSN becomes mandatory. For example if you think one of the Mars Rovers, they have used LZO lossless compression.

My Lab Battery Purchase and Service logs for Research ↗
Saturday' 13-Mar-2021
Here is a complete log of my lab battery purchase, service record which I maintain in Google drive. These I use for my home (or my family generic use) as well as a part of my home lab. I maintain a detailed log this way to monitor the failure rate of these batteries. This will allow me to select a specific brand/model which has higher success rate and to monitor any premature failure/expiry. The service log helps me to monitor and schedule the next service routine so that I can maintain these batteries in tip-top condition.
